And now it came to pass after some years had passed away, there came a man among the people of Nephi, whose name was Sherem.

Thou also sayest, except we repent we shall perish. How knowest thou the thought and intent of our hearts? How knowest thou that we have cause to repent? How knowest thou that we are not a righteous people? Behold, we have built sanctuaries, and we do assemble ourselves together to worship God. We do believe that God will save all men.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said: Here am I; send me. [continues next]

And he said: Go and tell this people — Hear ye indeed, but they understood not; and see ye indeed, but they perceived not. [continues next]

And said unto me: Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.

[continues previous] Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said: Here am I; send me.

[continues previous] And he said: Go and tell this people — Hear ye indeed, but they understood not; and see ye indeed, but they perceived not.

Now when the king had heard these words, he marveled again, for he beheld that Ammon could discern his thoughts; but notwithstanding this, king Lamoni did open his mouth, and said unto him: Who art thou? Art thou that Great Spirit, who knows all things?

For Antipus had fallen by the sword, and many of his leaders, because of their weariness, which was occasioned by the speed of their march — therefore the men of Antipus, being confused because of the fall of their leaders, began to give way before the Lamanites. [continues next]

Do ye suppose that, because so many of your brethren have been killed it is because of their wickedness? I say unto you, if ye have supposed this ye have supposed in vain; for I say unto you, there are many who have fallen by the sword; and behold it is to your condemnation; [continues next]

Yea, O God, thou hast been merciful unto me, and heard my cries in the midst of thy congregations.
